Lancy Burn was born in Charleston, SC in 1939. He spent many summers hunting, fishing and boating at his grandfather’s home on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina. Burn achieved the rank of chopper crew chief during his service in the Army which provided him the opportunity to learn celestial navigation, allowing him to realize his dream of sailing across the Atlantic.
